Laser Sights -
Why you should use them...for Home defense or Street Survival?
Whether you are a Law Enforcement Professional
or a civilian protecting your home and family, equipping your
firearm with a laser sighting device can provide you the extra
confidence and technical advantage to succeed.
Our instructors, as do
most others believe you should always be able to sight and
shoot a handgun without a laser. This new technology was never
meant to replace your fixed sights, but to supplement them in
difficult situations-like firing on the move or from awkward
positions, defending yourself in close quarters, aiming in low
light where iron sights are difficult to see, and any time that
you're under stress. Under these kinds of conditions, especially
in untrained or unpracticed hands our natural and automatic
reaction is to focus on the threat, not the gun-sights. If you
decide to add a laser sight to your gear it is recommended that
you stay with the quality lasers from Lasermax, Crimson Trace and
Aimshot green lasers.
Although a laser
sight for your handgun or Carbine may be an excellent accessory to
add to your home defense or street survival inventory, we do not believe that it is a
necessity for the average citizen. However if you have vision
difficulties a laser sight would be a necessity. Also they are
like chicken soup with a cold, they can't hurt if you want one.
In a stress
situation of defending yourself or family a person will respond
instinctively and shoot how they train. The correct way to shoot a
handgun is with "Front Sight" focus, so if you are training
correctly you will respond instinctively by front sight focus.
Therefore in a fast reaction situation you won't even remember to
active the laser until it is all over. In order to use the
laser in a reactive mode you would have to train with the laser so
the action of turning the laser sight on is instinctive ( muscle
memory). In doing so you will forget about front sight focus -
which is fine unless the laser's batteries happen to be dead.
As mentioned
earlier, using a laser sight may be the only way for some to
acquire a target. As we get older we can't see a damn thing,
especially in low light. A laser sight would absolutely help
in this type of scenario.
There are many companies producing laser sights
for handguns and long guns from low quality to high end Military
grade lasers. We strongly recommend that you do not waste your
money on the low cost lasers that attach to your trigger guard or
the cheap units that attach to light rails. The only brands that
are recommend for serious use are the Laser Sights from
Lasermax -
Crimson Trace -
Surefire and the
Green laser sights
from Aimshot. These manufacturers are the only laser sights
that have proven themselves in the field by Law Enforcement
,Military and serious civilians.
